Recipe for Easy Ginger Cookies
Ingredients
This recipe makes about two dozen cookies and requires the following ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/4 cup molasses
Instructions
To make the cookies:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, then stir in the water and molasses.
- Gradually stir the sifted ingredients into the molasses mixture.
- Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips
These cookies are best served warm. To reheat, place the cookies on a baking sheet and warm in a preheated 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
For added flavor, consider adding 1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger to the dough. You can also add a teaspoon of ground nutmeg or allspice to the dry ingredients.
If you want a more chewy cookie, add an extra tablespoon of molasses. For a crispier cookie, reduce the molasses to two tablespoons.
